DESCRIPTION SummaryThe Counselor provides professional counseling services to individuals, couples, groups, or families. This role involves clinical diagnosing, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, providing therapy, and maintaining clinical records in accordance with ethical and legal standards. The Counselor contributes to a supportive and collaborative team environment focused on providing high-quality care to military populations, veterans, LGBTQIA+, youth, and BIPOC and diverse populations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis- Conduct thorough initial assessments to gather relevant client history, presenting concerns, and strengths.
- Evaluate client needs and formulate accurate diagnoses based on most up-to-date diagnostic criteria (i.e., DSM V-TR or ICD-10 criteria).
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, outlining goals, objectives, and therapeutic interventions.
- Provide individual, couples, and/or family therapy using evidence-based practices appropriate to client needs.
- Establish and maintain a strong therapeutic alliance with clients.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions, if applicable.
- Implement crisis intervention techniques when necessary.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in compliance with ethical guidelines, HIPAA regulations, and agency policies.
- Complete progress notes, treatment plans, and other documentation in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure confidentiality of client information.
- Adhere to the ethical standards of the American Counseling Association and state licensing board.
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients.
- Participate in regular clinical consultations to discuss cases, address ethical dilemmas, and enhance clinical skills, as needed.
- Attend continuing education events to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in the field.
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and other team activities.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
- Regular meetings with practice owner to review clinical documentation and similar tasks and objectives.
- Potential duties to include outreach activities and relevant community workshops.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related mental health field.
- Current, active, and valid license to practice as a LPC in the state of Virginia / Tennessee.
- One year of experience providing counseling or similar services preferred.
- Experience with LGBTQIA+, youth, veterans, and military population, and BIPOC populations is a plus.
- Experience with trauma, eating disorders, and/or with therapeutic modalities to include CBT, DBT, and integrative approaches is a plus.
- Clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Proficiency in providing therapy to individuals, couples, groups, or family.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic relationships with diverse clients.
- Knowledge of ethical and legal standards in counseling.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems is a plus.
- Must carry professional liability insurance.
- Work is performed in a Virtual Office setting, so a quiet and confidential space is needed, along with a computer and internet connection.
- Full-time employees - 20+ clients per week
- Part-time employees - Up to 15 clients per week
- Both position types with flexible hours, including either evening or weekend availability
Note:
Caseloads are subject to change based on practice needs.
- Salary Range - $50-$58 per direct client hour
- Administrative Pay - $25 per hour with one (1) hour per week
- Benefits offered include $200/year for continuing education courses.
