Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Harry S. Truman VA Medical Center, Columbia, MO – 120 mi from St. Louis/Kansas City, 30 mi from Jefferson City. The facility serves 40,000 Veterans and offers a breadth of allied health and residency training. Responsibilities
  • Lead the Behavioral Health (BH) service line as General Mental Health Section Lead, overseeing Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Programs (BHIP), Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI), and Home Based Primary Care (HBPC). Supervise 14 FTE psychologists, social workers, and peer specialists directly; indirectly supervise >20 additional FTE across the main facility and nine community‑based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Provide direct oversight of BHIP, PCMHI, and HBPC teams and support psychology training programs at practicum and doctoral internship levels.
  • Deliver a full range of psychodiagnostic services, including psychological assessment, testing, and interpretation. Conduct adherence to documentation and timeliness standards set by the Medical Center and the Joint Commission.
  • Develop, implement, and document psychotherapeutic treatment plans for a caseload of patients, ensuring measurable goals, safety plans, and yearly updates aligned with clinical reminders and suicide risk assessments.
  • Supervise and instruct psychology practicum students, doctoral interns, and/or post‑doctoral fellows as assigned. Perform Administrative and clinical leadership tasks as directed by the Chief of Behavioral Health.
Education & Experience

Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited institutions qualify. Foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcript. Verify credentials .gov and visit international education guide.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation and urinalysis for illegal drug use; refusal results in denial.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination and possess a valid, unrestricted state driver’s license with unblemished record.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory.
  • Completion of online onboarding process and submission of required identification documents.
