Position: Nutrition Specialist (Remote - MD/DC)

The United States has the poorest maternal and birth outcomes of all developed countries with the underserved, Black, Brown, Indigenous communities disproportionately affected. Cayaba Care is working to drastically change the experience of affected communities by reimagining how we deliver meaningful and compassionate care to expectant moms.

Cayaba Care’s mission is to improve pregnancy, birth and the postpartum journey for women and their families by reimagining how maternity care is delivered. Our team is focused on building trust‑based engagement and wrap‑around support for expectant moms at home, in person and virtually to ensure they have all the social support they need for a successful and joyful pregnancy journey.

We help our members with care navigation, doula support, assistance with lactation, nutrition, housing, transportation and a wide range of other needs. We leverage technology to support our virtual engagement that allows us to meet all our moms where they are.

We ensure that our members have trusted sources for support, resources, and information throughout their pregnancy, delivery and well into postpartum. Cayaba Care does not replace the primary obstetrician or doctor’s relationships. Instead, we support expectant mothers with all other health‑related social needs not typically available through their doctors’ offices.

Our Values
  • Empathy is at the heart of everything we do. We must always center the experiences of the mothers and families we serve, as well as support and uplift one another.
  • Collaboration is what makes us stronger. We achieve the greatest impact when we work together, share knowledge, and elevate each other’s strengths.
  • Resilience reflects our ability to push through challenges, adapt in a fast‑changing environment, and remain committed to our mission no matter the obstacles.
The Role

Cayaba Care is seeking a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), Registered Dietitian (RD), or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) to join our team. In this role, you will deliver essential, specialized nutrition education and support to expectant and new mothers, especially those navigating high‑risk pregnancies or managing chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and anemia.

As a trusted partner, you will support the health and well‑being of Cayaba members and their babies through individualized dietary plans, virtual consultations, and education tailored to their nutritional needs. This position will primarily serve our members in Maryland, and DC, and potentially other areas in the future beyond what is listed, and report to the Director of Care Delivery.

Work Schedule

This is a remote, contract position. The schedule is based on your availability to accept scheduled visits and group classes. You are responsible for being present on Cayaba platforms at those provided times.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver individualized perinatal and postpartum nutrition education via scheduled, virtual visits.
  • Facilitate scheduled, virtual group classes for perinatal and postpartum nutrition, equipping mothers with essential knowledge for managing pregnancy and optimizing health outcomes.
  • Ensure clear and precise documentation for all care interactions.
  • Adhere to Cayaba policies and procedures to maintain the highest standard of care for our members.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), Registered Dietitian (RD), or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • Current licensure to practice in Maryland, and DC (licensure in other states is a plus!)
  • Demonstrated experience in providing medical nutrition therapy to perinatal and postpartum individuals managing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension or preeclampsia, inadequate weight gain, and anemia.
  • Experience serving families eligible for Medicaid, SNAP, or WIC programs.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills, including proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques and the ability to provide practical, culturally sensitive guidance with empathy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities, such as member visits and messages, in a fast‑paced environment.
