THIS POSITION IS AN ON-SITE ROLE and candidates must be able to work on-site at Ballad - Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.

Role

We are searching for the next Patient Access Specialist champion. This role is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital. They are responsible for performing these functions while meeting the mission and goals of the organization and all regulatory compliance requirements. The Representative will work within the policies and processes as they are being performed across the entire organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • The Patient Access Representative is responsible for performing admitting duties for all patients admitted for services at the hospital. They are responsible for performing these functions while meeting the mission and goals of the organization and all regulatory compliance requirements. The Representative will work within the policies and processes as they are being performed across the entire organization.
  • Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity / compliance checks, provide proper patient instructions, collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders, and utilize an overlay tool while providing excellent customer service as measured by Press Ganey.
  • Operate the telephone switchboard to relay calls and adhere to policies, providing excellent customer service with appropriate compassion. Patient Access staff will be held accountable for point of service goals as assigned.
  • Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected; conduct audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership.
  • Pre-register patient accounts prior to visits, including inbound/outbound calling to obtain demographic, insurance, and other patient information and collect point of service payments and past due balances including payment plan options.
  • Explain general consent for treatment forms, obtain signatures, and witness names.
  • Explain and distribute patient education documents and forms relevant to future services.
  • Review eligibility responses in the insurance verification system and select applicable insurance plan codes, entering benefit data to support POS and billing processes for clean claim rate.
  • Screen medical necessity using ABN software to inform Medicare patients of possible non-payment and distribute ABN and other designated forms as appropriate.
Experience & Education
  • Experience: 1+ years of customer service experience
  • Required

    Education:

    High School Diploma/GED Required
  • Certification: CRCR Required within 6 months of hire (Company Paid)
