Description and FunctionsYou will serve as a Health Facility Surveyor with the Health Care Surveillance Branch, Healthcare Licensing and Surveys, Wyoming Department of Health, conducting surveys and investigating complaints statewide according to Wyoming State Statutes and federal CMS agreements.

- Perform standard and abbreviated surveys such as initial licensure and certification surveys, recertification surveys, complaint investigations, and follow‑up surveys.
- Ensure the survey process is implemented correctly and efficiently.
- Interpret regulations and guidance from the State Operations Manual and other federal/state guidelines; perform complaint intakes and assess and document regulatory problems.
- Determine regulatory category for complaint allegations.
- Report findings to the Team Coordinator or Supervisor when working independently, evaluate plans of correction, and communicate approval or concerns to facility leadership.
- Provide oral or written technical assistance to a variety of healthcare provider types.
- Participate in in‑service education and other educational opportunities related to the survey process.
- Travel extensively statewide to and from survey sites.
Preferred/Agency Requirements: Preference may be given to registered nurses, registered dietitians, social workers, medical technologists, occupational, physical, or respiratory therapists; and to candidates with experience working in a nursing home, hospital, laboratory, home health agency, hospice, ambulatory surgical center, or dialysis facility.
Agency Requirements: Successful applicant must be licensed by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing and complete the CMS Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within six months of employment.
Knowledge- Health care standards, medical conditions (acute and chronic), medical procedures, mental health needs, and quality of life.
- Federal and state regulations for certifying and licensing healthcare facilities.
Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Healthcare).
0–3 years of progressive work experience in healthcare with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist; OR 4–6 years of progressive work experience in healthcare with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist.
Physical Working Conditions- Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites.
- Position located in Big Horn, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park, or Washakie County; work from a home office.
- FLSA:
Non‑Exempt. - Wyoming Department of Health is an E‑Verify employer.
- Flexible/Hybrid: requires working from home except in Laramie County.
