Summary

Occupational Therapist position assigned to Home Based Primary Care.

Location:

St. James, MO until Rolla, MO facility becomes operational.

Qualifications
  • United States Citizenship (Non-citizens may only be appointed if no qualified citizens can be recruited as per VA Policy).
  • English Proficiency:
    Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
  • Certification:
    Current NBCOT certification as an OT.
  • State Licensure:
    Full‑current‑unrestricted state license to practice occupational therapy.
  • Basic

    Education and Experience:
    • Either:
      Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy + 2 years of OT experience.
    • Or:
      Bachelor’s degree in OT + 2 years graduate education in a related field.
    • Or:
      Master’s degree or higher in OT.
    • Degree must be from an ACOTE‑approved program.
    • Foreign graduates must meet VA’s subparagraph requirements.
  • Grade Determination: GS‑9‑12 requirements including work experience or advanced education as outlined in VA Qualification Standards.
  • Preferred Experience:

    Certified OT with in‑home care experience.
Duties
  • Provide in‑home occupational therapy assessments and rehabilitation in the Home Based Primary Care program.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify therapeutic rehabilitation programs within HBPC framework.
  • Assess goals, living skills, physical abilities, and related patient needs; develop treatment plans to maximize functioning.
  • Coordinate with PM&R disciplines as needed; collaborate with patients and caregivers.
  • Provide direct patient care, procure equipment, and train clients and caregivers on exercises and adaptive devices.
  • Reassess patient functioning, revise treatment plans, and terminate objectives when met.
  • Document assessments, treatment plans, and treatment response in accordance with HBPC policy and JC standards.
  • Complete encounter information per Truman VA Medical Center guidelines and maintain electronic records using CPRS.
  • Coordinate coverage for anticipated or unanticipated leave per PM&R Service policies.
  • Participate in HBPC Performance Improvement Program and complete performance measures required for the OT role.
  • Use computer systems for electronic documentation, email, and printer management.
Physical Requirements

Incumbent must lift heavy loads (≥45 lbs), moderate carry (15‑44 lbs), and perform other tasks such as pulling, standing, walking, and bending. Must have valid unrestricted state driver’s license and meet medical qualification for operating motor vehicle. Must pass agency physical examination.

Work Schedule

Compressed Monday‑Friday 7:00 am–5:30 pm. Compressed/Flexible or Telework not available; position is not virtual.
