The Medical (Science) Director at Genentech places patients and science at the center of all actions, driving tactics that maximize medical progress and maintaining an in-depth understanding of medical strategy, clinical and payer issues, and the external healthcare landscape.
Key Responsibilities- Provide the medical perspective to a network of medical affairs professionals and cross‑functional teams in the home office and field organizations.
- Design medical strategies spanning the product lifecycle.
- Execute efficient implementation of medical tactics, leveraging expertise, insights, advanced analytics, and digital platforms.
- Develop partnerships and conduct scientific exchange with external stakeholders across the healthcare landscape, including therapeutic area experts and medical societies.
- Represent Genentech externally at key meetings.
- Lead congress and publication planning, and medical/scientific content communications and review.
- Design and manage data generation activities, including clinical studies and real‑world evidence conducted as part of medical affairs.
- Spearhead medical launch strategy, aligning clinical evidence, medical communication, and external stakeholder engagement to ensure launch readiness and excellence in execution.
- Advanced clinical or science degree (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD).
- Minimum three years of relevant clinical/medical pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience.
- Proven record in developing strong relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., therapeutic area experts, external organizations).
- Understanding of the U.S. health care environment, including payer landscape, marketplace factors/dynamics, and evidence‑based medicine tools and practices.
- Ability to navigate complex situations and thrive in an ambiguous, multi‑team environment.
- Highly collaborative, strong interpersonal skills, capable of influencing without authority.
- Preferred: background or clinical expertise in immunology (e.g., lupus, inflammatory bowel disease).
Position located in South San Francisco, CA; may require up to 35% traveling.
Salary & BenefitsExpected salary range for South San Francisco, CA: $173,200 – $433,600, based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Possible discretionary annual bonus and full benefits package (link to details).
