About the Job

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Science is seeking a Clinical Supervisor in Speech‑Language Pathology. Clinical Supervisors provide hands‑on practical training in the area of speech‑language pathology and supervise graduate students enrolled in practicum. Clinical Supervisors must keep current with developments in the field, continue professional development, and contribute to the profession. This is a 100%-time, 10‑month, one‑year, fixed appointment, Academic & Professional (P&A) position, which consists of working 32 hours a week on‑site at a local public school operating as the SLP, as well as direct supervision of 1‑2 graduate students at a time throughout the academic year.

Eight hours a week are reserved for clinical education duties and indirect supervision/education of graduate students (synchronous/asynchronous mix, potential for remote work). This site operates a 3:1 service delivery model with possibility for remote work every 4th week. In‑person service takes place in the Forest Lake school district.

Hybrid role:
Majority in person, one day a week. Once a month remote day to do note‑taking.

Please note, this position is not eligible for H‑1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Job Duties / Responsibilities Clinical services - 65%
  • Provide speech and language services to students in a public school with a broad age range of diverse identities and a wide range of speech‑language and hearing disorders, with and without assistance from graduate student clinicians.
  • Diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for public school students.
  • Implement therapeutic strategies to address speech and language difficulties.
  • Monitor and document public school student progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Complete due process requirements and documentation to support educational speech‑language services in a public school setting, including MA billing requirements.
  • Participate in special education team meetings, including but not limited to IEP meetings, Evaluation/Planning meetings, MTSS meetings, etc.
  • Integrate into the special education team of the contracted site.
Clinical Education / Supervision - 30%
  • Provide hands‑on clinical instruction and supervision to graduate student clinicians during the provision of direct evaluation and intervention services to public school students.
  • Provide clinical instruction and supervision to graduate student clinicians regarding operations in schools, evaluation and treatment of school‑aged children, and all other tasks listed under clinical services.
  • Provide daily feedback and responsive support to graduate student clinicians relating to their individual level of independence.
  • Complete formative and summative performance evaluations and approve ASHA clock hours for graduate student clinicians.
  • Develop individual goals collaboratively with graduate student clinicians, focusing on the development of skills required for degree completion and eligibility for professional licensure.
  • Monitor graduate students’ progress across the duration of clinical rotation and communicate graduate students’ development to the university Director of Clinical Programs.
  • Collaborate with the university Director of Clinical Programs to develop and provide additional support or intervention plans if a student is under‑performing.
  • Maintain detailed records of graduate students’ performance and activity.
Administration - 5%
  • Facilitate graduate students’ access to the physical site and on‑site technology.
  • Consult and report to the Director of Clinical Programs regarding aspects of the contract, site, and/or graduate students’ progress.
Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree plus at least six years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least four years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least one year of experience.
  • Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) licensure is required.
  • ASHA CCC credential (or eligible) and eligibility to provide clinical supervision per ASHA requirements.
  • MN PELSB license in Speech‑Language Pathology (or eligible).
