Occupational Therapist – Community Services

Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year, depending on experience, plus a sign‑on bonus (half paid after 6 months and half after 1 year, pro‑rated for part‑time).

Wayside is looking for an Occupational Therapist to work with our growing In Home Based Therapeutic Care (IHBTC) programs. The role is full time, split between Arlington and Methuen locations. You will provide occupational therapy services for young adults (18–25 years old) and their families referred by the Department of Mental Health. You must commit to family‑centered practice.

What You Will Do
  • Provide assessments, treatment plan development, and direct intervention to young adults and families seeking OT support within IHBTC.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams to set therapy goals and ensure they are met.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse multidisciplinary team to support clients through treatment plan intervention, safety planning, and crisis intervention.
  • Provide consultation focused on addressing clients’ functional goals.
  • Educate and consult clinical staff, young adults, and families/caregivers.
  • Provide home strategies and recommendations to families and deliver in‑home services when applicable.
Competencies and Traits
  • Strong clinical, observational, and writing skills.
  • Collaboration with mental health clinicians and other treatment providers—team or individual.
  • Ability to access safety in collaboration with team, providing safety planning that incorporates OT interventions.
  • Ability to work remote, in community, and in office settings.
  • Providing direct client care in client homes.
  • Creativity to support program development and further integrate OT into care.
  • Experience using clinical observations in assessment.
  • Strong skills in psychoeducation and consultation; able to explain OT interventions to young adults, families, and providers.
  • Ability to empower staff with various training levels to use OT strategies.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Massachusetts licensure or obtaining it prior to start date.
  • Experience serving adolescents with significant mental health needs.
  • Experience addressing functioning in home or community settings.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (required for community driving).
