Overview
The Vermont Department of Health's Barre District Office is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Public Health Specialist – Prevention Consultant. In this role, the Substance Misuse Prevention Consultant will collaborate with and provide support and technical assistance to community groups aimed at reducing substance misuse in Washington and northeastern Orange Counties.
ResponsibilitiesThis position requires strong relationship‑building skills with both internal and external partners across various community sectors. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Public Health Services District Director and involve maintaining a consistent physical presence in the office and community to support program activities and community partnerships, with at least three days in‑office each week and the option to telework the remaining days.
The role also involves collaborating with community partners, interpreting state‑level program guidance to meet community needs, and supporting data analysis and presentation activities.
The Vermont State Telework policy requires employees to work at least three days a week in the office. The Department of Health supports a hybrid work environment that combines in‑person and remote work, and upon hire employees work with their supervisor to create a schedule that aligns with business needs and complies with state policy.
Qualifications- Three (3) years or more of experience in public health, human services, emergency response, community engagement, program administration, or related health fields.
- Associate degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social work, social sciences, or related fields and two (2) years or more of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social sciences, or related fields and one (1) year or more of related experience.
- Master’s degree in any of the above fields.
- One (1) year or more of experience as Public Health Specialist I.
