Job Overview

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to ensure high‑quality, efficient patient care in the Student Health Center. Responsibilities include preparing patients for visits, assisting Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Physicians, performing delegated clinical tasks, supporting medication and vaccine administration, and maintaining accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Work is performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and university policies.

Minimum Education and Experience

Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program; CPR Certification; one year experience in an ambulatory/primary care clinic; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Current BLS certification.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Meet and greet patients and escort them to the exam rooms
  • Take and record vital signs
  • Receive the patient’s chief complaint
  • Perform venipuncture for ordered lab work
  • Perform CLIA waived clinical lab testing as ordered by the provider
  • Administer medications/injections as ordered
  • Document pertinent findings in the patient record
  • Provide accurate, concise documentation in the patient record
  • Keep rooms clean and stocked with supplies
  • Other functions as assigned
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The Certified Medical Assistant position requires the ability to perform essential job functions safely and effectively in a clinical environment. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during patient care and clinic operations.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to lift, carry, and move objects and equipment weighing up to 25–50 pounds as needed.
  • Bending and Reaching: Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to assist patients and access supplies.
  • Manual Dexterity: Sufficient hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to perform clinical tasks such as injections, wound care, and documentation.
  • Visual and Hearing Requirements: Ability to see and hear adequately to assess patient conditions, read charts, and respond to alarms or verbal instructions.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Environment: Work may involve exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals typically found in a healthcare setting. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.

Remote Notice

After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. The candidate must reside within the DFW area and be able to be on campus with 24 hours’ notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after the start date.
