About the Job

The Department of Speech‑Language‑Hearing Science is seeking a Clinical Supervisor in Speech‑Language Pathology. Clinical Supervisors provide hands‑on practical training and supervise graduate students enrolled in practicum. They must stay current with developments in the field, pursue professional development, and contribute to the profession. The position is a 100% time, 10‑month, one‑year fixed appointment (Academic & Professional) that requires 32 hours per week on‑site at a local public school serving as the SLP, plus direct supervision of 1–2 graduate students concurrently.

Eight hours per week are dedicated to clinical education duties and indirect supervision/education of graduate students (synchronous/asynchronous mix, potential for remote work). The site operates a 3:1 service delivery model with remote work possible every fourth week. Service is provided in‑person in the Forest Lake school district.

Job Duties / Responsibilities Clinical Services – 65%
  • Provide speech and language services to students in a public school with a broad age range of diverse backgrounds and a wide range of speech‑language and hearing disorders, with and without graduate student clinician assistance.
  • Diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for public school students.
  • Implement therapeutic strategies to address speech and language difficulties.
  • Monitor and document student progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Complete due‑process requirements and documentation to support educational speech‑language services, including MA billing.
  • Participate in special education team meetings (IEP, Evaluation/Planning, MTSS, etc.).
  • Integrate into the special education team of the contracted site.
Clinical Education / Supervision – 30%
  • Provide hands‑on clinical instruction and supervision to graduate student clinicians during direct evaluation and intervention services.
  • Provide instruction and supervision regarding school operations, evaluation and treatment of school‑aged children, and all other tasks listed under clinical services.
  • Give daily feedback and responsive support to graduate student clinicians regarding their level of independence.
  • Complete formative and summative performance evaluations and approve ASHA clock hours.
  • Develop individual goals with graduate students, focusing on skills required for degree completion and licensure eligibility.
  • Monitor student progress across the rotation and communicate development to the university Director of Clinical Programs.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and provide additional support or intervention plans if a student under performs.
  • Maintain detailed records of graduate student performance and activity.
Administration – 5%
  • Facilitate graduate students’ access to the physical site and on‑site technology.
  • Consult and report to the Director of Clinical Programs regarding contract, site, and student progress.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS plus at least 6 years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least 4 years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least 1 year of experience. SLP licensure is required.
  • ASHA CCC credential (or eligible) and eligibility to provide clinical supervision per ASHA requirements.
  • MN PELSB license in Speech‑Language Pathology (or eligible).
  • Five or more years as a Speech‑Language Pathologist in a public school system.
  • Experience supervising graduate students in speech‑language pathology.
  • Ability to manage a public school SLP caseload independently.
  • Work in‑person, off‑site, within 30 miles of campus.
  • Pass a background study clearance by the MN Department of Health and background verification to meet university requirements.

  • Seven or more years of professional experience.
  • MN Dept of Health SLP license (or eligible).
