Location:
Florida Department of Health in Seminole County; 132 Sausalito Blvd, Casselberry, FL 32707 or 400 W. Airport Blvd, Sanford, FL 32773. Remote work will not be a consideration.

Hours:

8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. This position requires traveling to other WIC sites and requires a valid Florida Driver License.

Responsibilities

The incumbent functions as the Nutrition Educator at the Casselberry WIC Program, reporting to the Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor.

Responsibilities include:

certifying eligible clients, providing nutrition counseling, referring to programs such as Breastfeeding, Healthy Start, Prenatal Clinic, and other social services. The role requires interaction with WIC staff, nutritionists, clerical staff, and occasionally executive leadership. It must always function under the direction of a licensed nutritionist.

Evaluates clinical and anthropometric data, dietary histories; reviews growth charts; completes medical and nutrition questions; assigns risk codes and food packages; follows state guidelines on prescriptions; schedules high-risk follow-ups; ensures timely client services measured by productivity standards.

Provides individual nutritional counseling and teaches group nutrition classes to pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women up to six months postpartum, and caretakers of infants and children.

Promotes breastfeeding; ensures benefits discussed; schedules infant feeding classes; coordinates with lactation staff; ensures follow-up.

Accurately completes and submits certified employee activity reports and People First timesheets by deadlines; ensures data matches and is submitted to supervisor.

Represents DOH-Seminole WIC Program at outreach activities and community events, attend at least one per year; trains clerical staff on nutrition kits; assists in training new WIC staff; participates in required training.

May perform lab duties, enter data, issue EBT benefits, schedule appointments, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Verifiable work experience conducting nutritional assessments.
  • Verifiable work experience providing nutrition education to clients individually or in groups.
  • Verifiable experience preparing and delivering educational presentations to clients, colleagues, or community members.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of nutrition science, nutrition treatment techniques, chemistry, biochemistry, statistics, research methods, and supportive nutrition sciences. Understanding of preventive health care theories and communication principles.

Skill in utilizing computers, Microsoft Office, and efficient time management.

Ability to conduct accurate nutritional assessments, determine problems, assess education needs, create care plans, prioritize work, collaborate with others, multitask, and resolve problems in a fast-paced clinic setting.
