Pharmacy Technician, Medical Technologist & Lab Technician
Job Summary
As a Pharmacy Technician at Michigan Medicine, you will work within a highly collaborative team that includes Pharmacists, Technicians, and other medical professionals. You will receive comprehensive, hands‑on training to ensure confidence in performing day‑to‑day responsibilities. After training, you will prepare sterile IV products, restock automated dispensing cabinets, and dispense solid oral dosage forms for patients visiting various infusion sites.
General Pharmacy Technician Duties- Perform activities relating to or supporting the preparation, compounding, processing, and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervisor or resident.
- Assist in retrieving/filing medication orders from electronic systems.
- Assist in general pharmacy cleaning, maintenance and stocking.
- Prepare investigational drugs per research protocols.
- Triage telephone inquiries.
- Assist with staff training.
Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, and manual dexterity movements. Follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability. Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Pharmacy Technician Associate- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License by hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
- Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematical skills.
- Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.
- Associate level requirements plus additional relevant experience.
At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. Basic algebra, including performing pharmacy calculations, is also highly desired.

All Pharmacy Technicians must hold a Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. A one‑time temporary license is available for up to one year, during which the Technician must complete requirements to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. Additionally, all technicians must obtain PTCB certification within six months of hire date and maintain it throughout employment.
Preferred Work ModesPosition may be eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work, subject to department discretion and annual review.
Work ScheduleFull‑time position. Hours depend on infusion center operational hours. Shifts start as early as 6 am and end as late as 8 pm. Weekends are required on a rotational basis. Rotation among work locations may occur.
Union AffiliationThis position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U‑M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP).
Background ScreeningMichigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre‑employment drug testing on all selected candidates in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
