Overview

Sentara is hiring a PRN/Flexi Pharmacy Technician II for our Outpatient Pharmacy "Meds to Beds" Program at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA.

Location: Norfolk General Hospital
- Norfolk, VA

Status: Flexi / PRN (8 hrs/week with opportunities to pick up additional hours)

Shift: Rotating 8 hr Shifts

Hours: 8:45am-7:15pm

Occasional Saturdays and Holidays

Sentara To Home pharmacies are designed to help patients transition to home by assisting with medication needs before leaving the hospital. The program is designed to make the transition to home as simple and convenient as possible for patients and their families.

At Sentara To Home, medications, home medical equipment, and other healthcare needs can be provided to be prepared after discharge.

The Pharmacy Tech II: transition specialist that consults with patients about what they will need to have a successful recovery once leaving the hospital. Prior to the day of your discharge, the transition specialist will visit the patient's hospital room to discuss medication needs and self-care requirements. The transition specialist pharmacy technician will arrange for these purchases and coordinate any payment transactions at the bedside and discharge medications and home medical equipment can be delivered to the hospital room before leaving.

The pharmacy tech performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.

  • Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
  • Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
  • Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
  • Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
  • Participates in the training of new employees
  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
  • Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
  • A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licensure
  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required)
Experience
  • 2 Years Pharmacy Experience (Required)
  • Transition Care Coordination, Case Management, Discharge Planning, Meds to Beds, Pharmacy to Home experience (Preferred)
