American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH) is seeking a Privacy Compliance Analyst I to join our Regulatory Strategic Development department. The primary purpose of this position is to support the company's compliance efforts with particular focus on supporting the functions of the company's Privacy Office.

American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $48,000 to $65,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range.
Remote Worker GuidelinesThis position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. The position requires a stable internet connection with a minimum reliable network speed of 50 down/10 up Mbps, 100 down/20 up recommended for higher quality video meetings.
Responsibilities- Supports Privacy Office activities by focusing on the following key accountabilities with supervision by the Manager, Privacy Office:
- Record, process and manage requests received by the Privacy Office in relation to HIPAA and state privacy rights with limited supervision in a thorough and timely manner. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Validating requests for releases of protected health information and authorizations for personal representatives
- Processing and responding to HIPAA accounting, amendment and restriction requests
- Processing and responding to state privacy right requests
- Coordinating such efforts among multiple internal departments
- Maintaining documentation of actions taken for retention and reporting purposes
- Monitors the externally facing HIPAA inbox and records and processes any privacy related requests received by the Manager, Privacy Office. This is done with limited supervision and in a timely manner. Reports non-routine messages to the Manager, Privacy Office.
- Monitors the Privacy Hotline daily and records all calls and responds to them appropriately with supervision by the Manager, Privacy Office. This is done with limited supervision and in a timely manner.
- Supports facilitation of PSKPT at the direction of the PSKPT Chair, including serving as the note-taker for PSKPT tasked with generating meeting minutes within 3 business days following each meeting for review by the PSKPT Chair.
- Report non-routine requests to the Manager, Privacy Office and coordinate subpoena requests with Legal. Serves as back-up to the Analyst II, Privacy Office for all related privacy office functions and incident investigations.
- Investigate and document reports of unauthorized disclosures of protected health information as directed by the Manager, Privacy Office. Keep Manager, Privacy Office and Vice President, Regulatory Strategic Development (VP RSD) informed of issues related to such activity.
- Communicates and coordinates externally with regulatory authorities and external clients as directed by the Manager, Privacy Office or VP RSD, to understand compliance expectations including negotiating with such authorities to achieve interpretations of regulatory requirements, consulting with supervisor on an ad-hoc basis regarding outcome of such communication. Educates external contacts regarding unique aspects of ASH’s business practices.
- Communicates and coordinates internally with various departments to understand rationale of operations and to communicate regulatory enforcement expectations of such operations including recommending courses of action, interpreting and translating enforcement expectations to current business practices. Communicates effectively with internal departments to obtain necessary information for regulatory filings based on the needs of each regulatory agency, in part by educating internal contacts on the unique regulatory environments in assigned states.
