This home-based (remote) position is open to Washington residents and those residing on the /WA and OR/WA borders.
This part-time (.50) Rural Health Transformation Project position is currently funded through October 30, 2030.
OpportunityThis position supports the mission of the Department of Health by leading work and providing clinical paramedic level subject matter expertise to certified EMS providers and support for rural trauma system development and improving EMS response to persons experiencing substance use disorders in rural communities as a part of the Rural Health Transformational Plan grant work. The position serves as a designated senior Health Services Specialist and reports to the Executive Director of the Emergency Care Systems Section of the Office of Community Health Systems.
Key Responsibilities Include- Work to expand access to neurological specialty care in rural emergency care systems.
- Support Rural Trauma Training and Team Development.
- Provide clinical subject matter expertise, technical assistance, and coordination to EMS agencies, medical program directors, and community partners.
- Develop, design, adopt, and deliver specialized opioid response training covering naloxone use, airway management, compassion fatigue, and harm-reduction practices for certified EMS providers in response to the opioid crisis.
You’ll collaborate with a variety of professionals and develop strong partnerships to enhance timely access to neurological care for people experiencing emergencies in rural communities. You’ll implement solutions to expand training and education, strengthening trauma team readiness in rural areas. You’ll also serve as a subject matter expert on continuity of care and opioid response, improving outcomes for individuals experiencing substance use disorders.
Required QualificationsThere are multiple pathways to qualify for this position. You must meet one of the options provided and any additional criteria listed.
Option 1:
Four (4) or more years in public health, healthcare administration, emergency medical services (EMS), trauma systems, healthcare systems planning.
Option 2: A bachelor’s degree in public health, health care administration, public administration, health systems administration, emergency medical services (EMS), nursing or a closely related field.
Additional Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience- Must currently hold or have previously held certification as an EMS provider at the paramedic level or equivalent clinical certification (e.g. critical care transport paramedic, flight paramedic) demonstrating advanced EMS clinical knowledge.
- Two years of experience as a certified paramedic or similarly licensed healthcare provider, including experience supporting EMS delivery, trauma systems, healthcare system coordination, or healthcare system planning.
- Demonstrated experience developing education materials training, or technical guidance for healthcare or EMS and trauma care providers.
- Experience working within regionalized emergency care systems, including EMS agencies, trauma systems, hospitals, or related healthcare partners.
- Using word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, to create, format, and edit tables, columns, and charts; import data, sort table data, and perform calculations in tables; insert and format sections, create headers and footers, and work with pictures and drawings.
- Using presentation software, such as Microsoft PowerPoint to create, edit, format, and run slideshow presentations, including previewing and printing slides, speaker notes, and handouts.
- Using messaging and calendaring software such as MS Outlook to compose, send, and respond to electronic mail. Utilize e‑mail program functions such as calendars and meeting requests.
