Chaplaincy Position
This clinical position is accountable for initiating, developing and deepening a mutual and empathic relationship with patients, families and staff. Provides crisis intervention, pastoral counseling, religious services, and educational programs for a diverse population of socioeconomic groups. Models and collaborates with the organization and its interdisciplinary team in respecting and providing culturally, psycho-socially and spiritual competent patient and family-centered care. Assist in sacramental/ritual ministry as appropriate;
provides referral to outside clergy for sacramental ministry as needed.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Theological studies or a related field. Required
- At least one year of training in an accredited clinical pastoral education center or the equivalent of 4 quarters of C.P.E. Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- 1 year Pastoral experience in an institutional setting. Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Ordination in an established denomination of a religion, or profession in a religious order is required.
What you will do
- Offering care and support to patients, their caregivers and staff regarding relevant issues, including loss/grief, spiritual/religious/existential struggle, strengths, opportunities for change and transformation, ethical decision making, and difficult communication or interpersonal situations.
- Respects the confidentiality of information from all sources, including the patient/family members, medical record, interdisciplinary team members, larger health care team and local faith community members, in accordance with organization's policies and federal and state laws, regulations and rules.
- Provides staff support by routinely addressing staff concerns related to bereavement that will prevent issues related to compounding. This includes offering support to the No One Dies Alone (NODA) volunteers.
- Conduct chaplaincy assignments at health center special events, i.e., employee awards banquet, donor recognition, groundbreaking ceremonies, etc. Serves on committees within department, and other hospital committees as needed.
- Develops and implements a spiritual plan of care to promote patient well-being and continuity of care.
- Gathers and evaluates relevant data pertinent to the patient's situation and/or bio-psycho-social-spiritual/religious health.
- Assesses and enters information pertinent to patient's medical record that is relevant to the patient's medical, psycho-social and spiritual/religious goals of care.
- Provide follow-up with a contact to other workers and clergy when transferring or referring a patient.
- Educating and consulting with the health care staff and the broader community.
- Flexibility in schedule to cover other Chaplains on leave, when possible.
- Identifies and creates system-wide opportunities to enhance the quality of chaplaincy practice.
- Practices evidence-based care, including ongoing evaluation of new practices, and when appropriate, contributes to or conducts research.
- Takes responsibility for continued professional development. Demonstrates a working knowledge of current theory and practice. Train and orient new Spiritual Care staff.
- Serves as liaison and builds relationships with local faith communities and their leaders on behalf of the organization.
- Prepares and maintains records. Documents patient care activities in the electronic medical record.
