Two (2) part-time vacancies. Up to 19 hours per week, hours vary based on departmental needs. Successful candidates must reside in the State of Wisconsin. Under supervision of the Dean or designee, to teach classroom, online and applied courses in the Medical Coding Specialist Technical Diploma Program. Related duties include advising students, evaluating student achievement, developing strategies to enhance student achievement, developing and evaluating curriculum, evaluating program effectiveness, participating in divisional and departmental activities, formulating or assisting in formulating departmental policy and procedures, developing or assisting in development of a program budget, ordering supplies and equipment, maintaining equipment, and other duties as assigned.

May be required to teach evenings or weekends.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance.
  • Advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Health Information Management, Health Care Informatics,

OR

Associate's Degree AS in Health Information Technology, five (5) year (10,000 hours) of experience and training, including one (1) year of Supervision/Management in Health Information Management.

Occupational Experience Requirement:

Must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience as a Medical Coder. In addition, one of the following must be met:

  • At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years,

OR

  • Two (2) years of teaching Medical Coding course work at the post-secondary level within the last five (5) years.

{One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time — per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS3 3.04}

Industry or Vendor Certification Requirement: Must have current certification in one (1) of the following:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC).
  • Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Registration Administration (RHIA).
