VA Experienced Remote Inpatient Facility Fee (PTF) Medical Coders – Full-Time and Part-Time Positions Available

Summary

Cooper Thomas, LLC, a leading provider of medical coding, auditing, and training services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), has four immediate openings for VA‑experienced Inpatient PTF Coders with a minimum of two years' experience. Positions are available as full‑time (W‑2, 40 hours per week) or part‑time (1099, minimum 20 hours per week) remote coding roles.

Requirements
  • VA experience as an employee or contractor
  • Minimum 95% coding accuracy; responsible for self‑correction without additional payment
  • Strong productivity in a government‑contractor environment with required turnaround times
  • Active Background Investigation, COI, PIV Card, eToken, and VA Contractor’s Citrix Access or active Moonlighter Account
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD‑10, and DRG assignment; can code PTF charts in ICD‑10
  • Ability to meet minimum per‑hour productivity and 95% accuracy
  • Active certified coder credentials with ongoing maintenance
  • Familiarity with site‑specific coding guidelines
  • Formal training in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pathology, pharmacology, health record format, reimbursement methodologies, and classification systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS)
  • Experience in data validation, report generation, and adherence to coding compliance
  • Familiar with ICD, CPT, SNOMED, HCPCS, JCAHO, DSM, DRC, and procedural terminology
  • Experience coding in VIP and the 101, 401, 501, 601, and 701 screens
Accepted Coding Credentials American Health Information Management Association
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) / Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) / Certified Coding Specialist‑Physician (CCS‑P)
  • Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System Trainer
American Academy Of Professional Coders
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) / Certified Professional Coder‑Hospital (CPC‑H)
  • Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
