ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY Responsible for completing and submitting Arizona State required information for birth certificates, fetal death certificates, paternity affidavits, and other required documentation related to birth certificates. The HIM Tech II is responsible for coordinating suspension protocol with Medical Staff Services, maintaining the integrity of the master patient index, merging, unmerging and overlying of the MPI, and facilitating synchronization with other indices throughout the organization.
EssentialFunctions
- Assists patients with the birth registration and the paternity process by collecting and verifying patient information required by the State of Arizona Birth and Paternity registration processes. Enters birth data into the electronic State of Arizona Birth Reporting System. Prioritizes work and reconciles newborn patients with birth registration submission to assure 100% submission of Honor Health patient births and fetal deaths.
Works with the patient and the State of Arizona Birth Registration to resolve issues related to birth certificates and paternity affidavits. - Researches patient admission histories and collaborates with Patient Registration and other departments as necessary to determine correct medical record merges. Monitors and performs maintenance on the organization's master patient index (MPI). Reviews Duplicate Patient Reports to identify patient records possibly needing to be merged.
- Distributes chart deficiency and suspension information to physicians, providers, and other appropriate entities. Information includes but is not limited to: reminders, pending suspension, fine notification letters, other correspondence relating to chart deficiencies and suspension of admitting privileges. Maintains the physician suspension process which includes monitoring, tracking, and reporting physician deficiencies in the Honor Health electronic medical record system.
- Actively participates in department activities. Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate. Completes all position and department safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Associates Preferred
- 2 years experience in any or all of the following: master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing.
Required - Other Basic understanding and use of computers, telephones, fax, copy machines, and data entry into computer programs.
Excellent communication skills with physicians.
Required - 3 years experience in any or all of the following: master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing. Preferred
- Other Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relative to birth registration and the confidentiality and security of patient health information. Experience in a role utilizing excellent communication and analytical skills. Preferred
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - Certification Registered Health Information Technician Preferred
- Registered Arizona State Birth Registrar Preferred
