The Medical Payment Posting Specialist is a part-time hybrid role based in New Haven, CT, with some work-from-home flexibility. This role is responsible for accurately posting payments, adjustments, and denials from insurance companies and patients into the practice management system on a daily basis. The specialist reconciles deposits, balances daily payment batches, and follows up on payment discrepancies to ensure the integrity of the accounts receivable.
They review explanation of benefits (EOBs), identify underpayments or incorrect postings, and communicate with billing staff, insurers, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues. The role also includes maintaining detailed documentation, supporting month-end reporting, and adhering to compliance standards and practice policies while contributing to a smooth revenue cycle for the practice.
- Foundational knowledge of Medicine to understand basic medical terminology and services related to ophthalmology and retinal care.
- Previous experience in medical payment posting required.
- Previous experience in medical billing, or revenue cycle in a healthcare or ophthalmology practice preferred.
- Proficiency with practice management systems, electronic health records, and basic office software (e.g., Excel, Word).
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple payment batches and deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with clinical, billing, and administrative teams and interact with payers.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment, maintain confidentiality, and follow HIPAA and compliance guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in medical billing or coding is beneficial.
