Ophthalmic Technical Assistant – USFTGP Ophthalmology (260001FD).

Work with ophthalmologists to assist during eye surgery and set up and perform maintenance on equipment. Ophthalmology technologists often perform diagnostic testing, including measuring a patient’s vision. They must be familiar with ophthalmic pharmacology and understand the use of corrective lenses.

• Meet with patients to discuss ocular medical history, chief complaint, current medications, allergies, and family history to prepare the patient for the physician.
• Perform initial work up including visual testing, color vision testing, retinoscopy, and refraction for the physician to review and consider during visit.
• Perform various diagnostic tests and measurements including A-Scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, keratometry, lensometry, tonometry, and visual fields to support the physician's review.
• Review patient records for completeness to allow for a timely and efficient patient visit.
• Maintain supplies and equipment in examining rooms to allow for adequate patient care.
• Complete in-basket messages to allow for timely communication to patients and providers.
• Maintain overall patient experience and safety, following all emergency clinical policies and protocols, to allow for optimal care.

• High School Diploma or GED
• JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• 1 year experience as an Ophthalmic Tech
