Position Summary

Reviews provider documentation and revises and/or assigns ICD-10-CM codes and CPT/HCPCS codes as appropriate, based on official coding guidelines. Researches and takes appropriate action on any coding/claim edits. Focus is provider-based E&M level visits or outpatient hospital-based ancillary visits.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required;
    Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information or a healthcare-related discipline preferred.
  • Licensing and certification: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, or CPC required.
  • Technical experience: 1 year (2000 continuous working hours) required for CCS-P, CCA, or CPC.
Role Specific Responsibilities
  • Follow all coding policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Effectively use encoding software and reference materials to assign appropriate codes.
  • Provider-driven coding:
    Review and accept or revise code selection based upon documentation and coding guidelines.
  • Non-provider driven coding:
    Review provider documentation and assign appropriate codes based upon coding guidelines.
  • Review coding edits and resolve them accurately so the encounter can be sent to claims.
  • Send clear, respectful communications to providers in basket or queries when additional information is needed before finalizing coding.
  • Identify and communicate to Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager any issues related to documentation, coding, or systems that may impact quality, compliance, or productivity.
  • Perform work queue duties as assigned by Coding Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
  • Maintain coding quality and productivity standards.
  • Actively engage and make meaningful contributions when participating in performance‑improvement initiatives, department meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Maintain required CEU’s.
  • Compensation (commensurate with experience): $22.29 – $34.55.
