Overview
Employees in this assignment serve as a Clinical Dietitian, providing Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) within the Clinical Section of the Nutrition and Food Service. Clinical Dietitians providing HBPC coordinate nutritional care of Veterans with other health care providers, the Veteran, the Veteran's caregiver, and the community.
Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship:
Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non‑citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a). - Registration:
All applicants must hold the RDN credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). The credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Applicants who hold the RDN credential have met the education requirement (bachelor's degree or higher) of CDR, as such this occupation is considered professional and scientific with a positive education requirement and the procedures in PartI, Chapter4 of this Handbook will be followed when applying Veteran’s preference. - Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. §7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade DeterminationsDietitian (Clinical), GS‑11. At least one year of experience as an RDN equivalent to the next lower grade. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to:
Conduct nutrition assessments using the NCP;
Apply evidence‑based nutrition practice guidelines; interpreting research and utilizing whole health principles to develop patient‑centered goals and improve outcomes;
Maintain accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities and patient encounters using approved systems;
Utilize virtual care technology to improve access to care.

- Skill in analyzing data for performance improvement studies.
- Skill in collaborating with stakeholders.
- Ability to comply with various accrediting, regulatory, and agency authorities.
