Job Summary

This position performs facility coding and abstracting functions for inpatient services.

• Assign appropriate admit, principal and secondary diagnoses and procedure codes, maintaining 95% quality and meeting coding productivity requirements. Include POA indicators, DRG/MSDRG/APR‑DRG assignments, HAC codes, and principal diagnosis accuracy.
• Obtain clarification from physicians when documentation is inadequate.
• Support educators and supervisors with review of denied accounts by RAC and other payers.
• Assign transaction codes in the HBOC system when documentation is insufficient and follow department policy for follow‑up and physician query.
• Abstract all data elements necessary to complete UB‑04 and meet hospital‑reporting requirements.
• Verify demographics, correct account numbers, charges and services, and identify missing or incorrect forms.
• Identify problem cases on the DNFB and forward to appropriate staff for follow‑up.
• Perform additional duties as requested by supervisor.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Health Information Management education.
• AHIMA Authorized Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification.

Day shift, 40 hours per week.
