Overview
The Surgical Technologist ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment and assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role involves maintaining patient safety and ensuring that the surgical environment is organized, clean, and sterile. The Surgical Technologist assists in applying dressings, securing surgical drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas.
Adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Works closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth and effective procedures.
- Prepare the operating room with instruments and equipment and maintain a sterile field throughout procedures.
- Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team and anticipate needs of the surgeon.
- Assist with applying dressings, securing surgical drapes, and transferring patients to recovery areas.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to promote smooth and efficient procedures.
- Virginia Surgical Technologist License REQUIRED
- NBSTSA/NCCA Surgical Technologist Certification REQUIRED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED
- Prior Surgical Technologist experience PREFERRED

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 525-bed tertiary care facility that houses the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads and serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School.
