Position: Ultrasonographer - Manhattan Sonography - FT - Day

A Brief Overview

Produces two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by physicians in the diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs by performing the following duties.

Education Qualifications
  • Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program through an accredited organization or on-the-job training in ultrasound that led to registry. Required
Experience Qualifications
  • Customer service experience. Preferred
  • Experience in ultrasound. Preferred
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical setting. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Experience utilizing imaging equipment.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – ARDMS, ARDMS‑Sonography, CCI‑Sonography or ARRT‑Sonography are accepted depending on department. Required
  • Basic Life Support – BLS, required within 90 days of hire.
What you will do
  • Select appropriate equipment and transducer for ultrasound setup according to examination protocol specifications. Adjust equipment controls per organ, depth of field, and other test specifications. Move transducer by hand over the specified body area and monitor the sound wave display screen to ensure high-quality ultrasonic patterns.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and perform department exam protocols. Explain the process to patients and instruct/assist patients into physical positions for examination.
  • Accurately enter required data into Lumedx (PACS) system.
  • Complete and participate in quality improvement evaluations as needed/assigned.
  • Start equipment that produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film. Photograph images shown on the display module or remove strip printout to create a permanent record of the examination.
  • Disinfect equipment and work area.
  • Participate in training Washburn University students as directed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and perform proper high‑level disinfection processes for probe care, if applicable.
  • Cardiac sonographers perform IV puncture, using proper injection techniques while administering endocardial border‑enhancing agents.
  • Participate in rotating call (Manhattan/Emporia exempt).
  • Select and add correct associated examination charges as needed.

  • 20% travel to satellite locations as necessary.
