The Health Information Management (HIM) Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of health records, ensuring their integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility in compliance with federal, state, and organization regulations. This role manages HIM staff performance, timely training, and acts as a key liaison for internal and external customers for medical record processes. The manager places a crucial role in adapting departmental operations to evolving regulatory requirements and supporting special projects.
Specific Job Details
Education:
Associate's degree, HIM required;
Bachelor's degree, HIM preferred.
Certifications:
RHIA or RHIT credential preferred.
Experience:
3–5 years of experience in Health Information Management or medical records operations required; 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HIM regulations, including HIPAA, record retention, CMS Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards.
- Proficiency with EPIC (or comparable EHR), including reporting tools, work queues, data quality review, and workflow troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements to HIM operations.
- Skilled in analyzing data, developing KPIs, and monitoring productivity metrics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
