We are looking for a Healthcare Resource Specialist to join our referral team, providing exceptional customer service to patients and facilitating the transfer of care between primary care providers and specialists. The role is full‑time, Monday‑Friday during typical office hours, with a mix of in‑office and remote work as needed.
About This PositionThis work is performed primarily over the phone in a non‑clinic setting. The specialist will work closely with multiple clinics, physicians, and insurance companies to ensure timely, accurate referral processing. The position requires technical clerical skills, strong communication, and the ability to navigate multiple software platforms and electronic health record systems simultaneously.
General Requirements- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent (required) - Experience:
Prior work in a hospital, medical office, or insurance setting preferred - Knowledge:
Working familiarity with medical terminology and the healthcare system—including insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and physician office operations—preferred - Technical:
Computer skills with MS Office and insurance site management; EPIC experience is an advantage; ability to operate within multiple software applications simultaneously - Skills:
Well‑developed verbal and written communication in English, excellent customer service, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities; strong listening and critical‑thinking skills; independence with minimal supervision while functioning as part of a team - Compliance:
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA standards
- Demonstrate commitment to the Organizational Mission, Core Values, and Vision in all interactions and decisions
- Provide outstanding customer service to patients, physicians, and staff, fostering positive relationships
- Intervene over the phone with Saint Alphonsus patients and physician offices to efficiently process referrals
- Work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate with team members to improve workflow, provide backup, and maintain a productive work environment
- Maintain accurate and timely referral data entry, ongoing tracking, and documentation to ensure patient safety
- Collect and validate patient information, contact insurance companies for prior approval as needed, and notify patients or physician offices of referral status
- Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
