Job Description Summary

The Behavioral Technician will provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Clients include children with autism and related developmental disabilities in the home, community, clinic, and school settings. The Behavioral Technician collects data on programs and assists with parent training, working under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.

Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement intervention strategies using direct therapy, monitoring, and consultation under the supervision of a BCBA.
  • Teach targeted behaviors using specialized techniques that may include reward systems, incidental teaching, and pivotal response training.
  • Record and track data from training sessions.
  • Reinforce positive behavior with children on caseload.
  • Communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with administrators, parents, and community members.
  • Provide accurate documentation of intervention, goals, and objectives.
  • Facilitate transitions among agencies, programs, and professionals as service provision changes.
  • Identify emergency situations and determine appropriate action to ensure child safety.
  • Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.
  • Follow prescribed behavior skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior.
  • Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with the client’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the BCBA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Hearing and speaking ability required for telephone communication.
  • Vision necessary for entering data.
  • Reaching required for paper management.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating the computer, photocopier, and telephone.
  • Mobility required for going to photocopier, fax machine, etc.
  • Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner.
  • Must function independently and have personal integrity.
  • Requires flexibility of hours.
Psychological Requirements
  • Recognize tasks and perform them independently.
  • Establish a responsible and trustworthy rapport with staff through punctuality, proper notification for absence and tardiness, and following through on tasks.
  • Adjust to changing work schedules.
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment under time constraints.
Intellectual Requirements
  • Learn all Constellation Kids policies and procedures.
  • Use judgment skills in processing telephone calls.
  • Organize tasks to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Operate all aspects of the computer, photocopier, and telephone.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions from the supervisor.
  • Read, write, and type.
Qualifications
  • Either a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited university and one year of direct relevant experience working with youth and families requiring behavior management for mental health needs, or an associate’s degree (60 college credits) and a minimum of two years of direct relevant experience working with youth and families requiring behavior management for mental health needs.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification is a plus.
