Aboutthe Role
The Recovery Coach is an integral member of a patient’s multidisciplinary care team. The role of the Recovery Coach is to ensure patients successfully integrate into Equip treatment by adhering to their care plans and fully engaging in treatment. This goal is achieved through proactively identifying and addressing barriers to treatment, identifying opportunities to personalize Equip’s programming to address patient needs, and providing key skills and tools for recovery.
The Recovery Coach is accountable for balancing patient engagement in treatment and adherence to the care plan with patient satisfaction. The Recovery Coach is comfortable with, and passionate about, sharing their lived experience with eating disorder recovery with individuals currently in the process of treatment and recovery. The Recovery Coach is motivated by the ultimate goal of providing patients with access to the tools and services they need to achieve meaningful, lasting recovery.
- Provide skills‑based individual and group sessions to patients and caregivers in treatment at Equip.
- Implement motivational strategies with patients and caregivers to engage with their care plans, including monitoring adherence to care plans and completion of program elements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team huddles to support patient progress in treatment.
- Actively listen and guide patients and caregivers to anticipate challenges and engage in coping‑ahead strategies.
- Maintain an availability calendar allowing patients and caregivers to schedule appointments.
- Conduct proactive outreach (phone calls/messaging), missed appointment recovery, reminders, tracking, and support to ensure full engagement with the care plan.
- Engage in problem‑solving to ensure care plan adherence, including identifying and providing tangible solutions to roadblocks to treatment adherence.
- Ensure personalization of care plans by making program recommendations and coordinating services to ensure patient needs are met – examples include, but are not limited to, booking additional care team member sessions and registering for groups; providing meal support sessions; and referring personalized resources to support the patient and their supports (for adult patients only, if applicable).
- Build a relationship of respect and trust with patients.
- Complete timely documentation of caregiver and patient interactions in compliance with Equip policies.
- Attend and participate in internal meetings as well as initial and ongoing training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Lived experience with eating disorder recovery with ability to identify as being in a solid space of recovery.
- 2+ years of experience working directly with patients in a setting that utilizes protocolized care – including, but not limited to, coaching, case management, mentorship, social work, or milieu therapy.
- Proven comfort working within structured care models or evidence‑based protocols (e.g., following specific clinical guidelines, behavior change frameworks, or care plans).
