Seeking a Promotora/Promotor Comunitaria/o to engage directly with LA County residents by conducting community engagement, education, and outreach activities designed to increase disaster preparedness, promote environmental sustainability, and strengthen physical and mental well-being among residents of LA County’s communities. The position is responsible for facilitating surveys and assessments to support access to community members. This role requires experience working with individuals, families including children and adolescents in culturally responsive, community-based settings.

The person in this position works primarily “in the field” in LA County (South LA, East LA, Wilmington and Pacoima), and from a home office for occasional administrative duties.
Required Travel:
Local travel in South LA, East LA, Wilmington and Pacoima up to 50% of the time, including to multiple locations within a single day.
Schedule:
Per diem up to 29 hours per month. Variable work schedule including shifts on weekends and evenings.
Under the supervision of the Environmental Health Manager, the Promotora/Promotor Comunitaria/o will engage directly with LA County residents by conducting community engagement, education, and outreach activities designed to increase disaster preparedness, promote environmental sustainability, and strengthen physical and mental well-being among residents of LA County’s communities. The position is responsible for facilitating surveys and assessments to support access to community members.
This role requires experience working with individuals, families including children and adolescents in culturally responsive, community-based settings.
- Identify and secure potential sites and groups to conduct educational workshops and wellness activities in order to meet the program’s goals.
- Proactively conduct outreach and educational activities to inform community members in culturally and linguistically relevant ways.
- Participate in town halls, back to school events, holiday activities, tabling events, or similar to connect with local families, engage them with educational materials, and identify gaps in existing resources.
- Speak to groups in person and through a virtual platform, such as Zoom.
- Engage with community members through focus groups and listening sessions designed to understand local needs and challenges in accessing services and resources.
- Facilitate surveys and assessments with community members and support in applying for assistance programs.
- Conduct outreach and education to LA County community members via door to door, community events, schools, faith based organizations, and partner agencies.
- Conduct outreach, screening, and enrollment of eligible participants into program services; assist community members in completing applications, gathering required documents, and understanding program eligibility.
- Provide system navigation support to community members as well as providing referrals for relevant resources.
- Proactively engage in timely and necessary follow‑up.
- Consistently meet all assigned productivity and outcome goals.
- In all activities, comply with all contracts, funder requirements, and VyC procedures and policies.
Meet or exceed all goals and requirements established by management for this position.
Additional Duties- Provide support to other departments as needed.
- Work with vendors, contractors, and consultants to achieve departmental goals, as needed and available.
- Provide general and administrative support to management and designated staff as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
