Health Care Service Trainee I (HCST I)
Current Colorado residents only. This position is open to current Colorado residents only. The role is located at the Wheat Ridge Regional Center, Office of Adult, Aging and Disability Services.
OverviewThe Wheat Ridge Regional Center provides comprehensive services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a Health Care Service Trainee I, you will provide hands‑on direct support to help clients achieve the highest level of independence in health, safety, and activities of daily living.
Key Responsibilities- Coaching and mentoring individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Assisting with learning personal care and domestic skills.
- Implementing behavior programs to reduce problem behaviors and teach coping and safety skills.
- Responding to crises using approved verbal and physical interventions.
- Assisting with various therapy and treatment activities.
- Ensuring accurate documentation of care and interventions.
- Providing supervision and support to individuals while at home.
- Providing transportation and community support.
- Attending and participating in training as required.
- Working with an interdisciplinary team.
- Working flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
Fully paid training is provided. Upon completion of orientation, you will be trained to administer medication. Successful competency leads to promotion to HCST II and a pay increase of $1 per hour. After six months as Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP), promotion to Health Care Technician I and another $1 per hour increase follows. Further promotional opportunities include Mentor/Health Care Technician II, Line Charge/Health Care Technician III, and Residential Coordinator/Health Care Technician IV.
Preferred Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working with people who have developmental or intellectual disabilities.
- Experience working with people who have mental health diagnoses.
- Effective oral communication.
- Effective written communication.
- Ability to instruct individuals with personal care needs.
- Listening skills.
- Teaching skills.
- Willingness to learn.
- State of Colorado residency required at time of application and throughout employment.
- Residency within Colorado required; out-of-state license holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days.
- Automated background checks: CBI name check, fingerprint, check of Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, Trails check, CAPS.
- High school diploma or GED required within one year of employment.
- Valid, non-restricted Colorado driver’s license required for positions involving vehicle use; vehicle travel may be required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Pre‑employment physical/test: ability to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, etc., and perform physical interventions as required.
- Vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado, including influenza and tuberculosis test.
- 24/7 facility – must be available for any shift, any day, and any location as required.
