About Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan

The Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHH‑FL) is one of two state hospitals serving the community. CMHH‑FL provides inpatient treatment to adults aged 18‑59, with 154 inpatient beds and seven treatment milieus that serve both civil and forensic populations. Medical services, occupational therapy, neuropsychological rehabilitation, and trauma‑informed care are available to all patients.

Position Overview

The Psychologist I works full‑time, 24‑hour state psychiatric hospital with voluntarily and involuntarily committed patients. The role includes individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, assessment, consultation, student supervision, and court testimony.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy as scheduled and based on treatment plans.
  • Develop and lead therapeutic group materials tailored to patient needs.
  • Design and implement individualized behavior plans for patients requiring specialized interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and provide written reports and recommendations.
  • Consult with multidisciplinary treatment teams on clinical goals, progress, and discharge planning.
  • Perform evaluations for civil commitment, communicate findings to court via letters, petitions, and testimony.
  • Teach doctoral externs and pre‑doctoral interns through seminars, supervision, and mentorship.
  • Participate in hospital‑wide events, in‑service trainings, and program development.
  • Provide psychoeducation and training to milieu staff for implementation of behavior plans.
  • Support student internship and externship programs, including interviewing, selection, and supervision.
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned, including hospital‑wide ad hoc activities or milieu support.
Qualifications
  • Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners.
  • One (1) year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D.)
  • Experience with comprehensive psychological assessment and civil certification, especially with inpatient, forensic, or SPMI populations.
  • Previous Colorado state experience with similar roles.
Conditions of Employment
  • MAY be exposed to bodily fluids or caustic chemicals.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age due to the juvenile population served.
  • Required 2‑step TB screening, annual influenza vaccination, and other state‑mandated immunizations.
  • Full background checks as required for direct contact with vulnerable persons.
  • Disciplinary termination or resignation history must be disclosed; incomplete disclosure may disqualify applicants.
