Medical Physicist
Overview
The Division of Medical Physics at The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible therapeutic medical physicist to join our group of 8 therapy physicists, 1 diagnostic imaging physicist, and 1 nuclear medicine physicist/RSO. This position will provide clinical service to the Network Department of Radiation Oncology.
The UVM Medical Center (UVMMC) is located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain with views of the Adirondacks to the west and the Green Mountains to the east. Vermont offers outdoor activities year-round, a vibrant community, and a high quality of life.
Radiation Oncology at UVMMC occupies a LEED-certified space with three linacs, HDR, a CT simulator, and active special procedure programs. Other sites in the UVM Health system include Central Vermont Medical Center (Berlin, VT), Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (Plattsburgh, NY), and Alice Hyde Medical Center (Malone, NY).
The health system is undergoing a major technology transition, with six modern Varian linear accelerators (including an Ethos) planned for install across partner sites over the next 3 years. The transition includes cloud-based Aria and Eclipse, replacing Mosaiq and Pinnacle, and the addition of Brianlab Exac Trac with surface imaging to support SRS and SA programs. These efforts will enhance active, high-quality programs.
This is a great time to join our team and shape the future of radiation oncology in Vermont and northern New York.
This role primarily supports UVMMC on-site, but some travel to partner sites may be required as we integrate across the health system. We value work-life balance; most therapy physicists work from home one day per week on average.
The Division of Medical Physics supports academic activities through research and educational support of the Radiology Residency Program, the Cardiology Fellowship Program, and the Department of Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences. Work to add medical physics residency programs in Radiation Therapy Physics and a joint Diagnostic Imaging/Nuclear Medicine residency is underway.
As we share a campus with the UVM Larner College of Medicine, candidates holding a PhD with a track record of academic productivity may be considered for faculty-track roles. Our group is actively engaged in resident education, clinical trials implementation and support, and there is potential to teach undergraduates. Our physicists participate in national and international societies, committees, and leadership roles as part of the institution’s mission.
Qualifications- Education: MS, DMP, or PhD in medical physics required. Must be fully board certified within 3 years of hire.
- Experience: Board-certification or board-eligibility by the A , CCPM, or equivalent is required.
- Location: Primary work location is UVMMC in Burlington, VT. The group provides support for the UVM Health across Vermont and northern NY; travel up to approximately 2–4 days per month may be required to partner sites.
At UVMMC, we support our employees with a comprehensive, total compensation package that includes salary, health and wellness benefits, paid time off, and more.
