This HBA/Financial Counselor position is accountable for making decisions supported by policy based on confidential financial information both from the facility and from patients to determine qualification for CICP (as applicable), Charity programs, or payment arrangements. You will utilize scheduling and registration information to verify coverage and authorization for all scheduled procedures. After the verification of benefits and authorization, HBA/FC populates price estimate tool to decide patient portion.

This role makes calls to patients, doctor’s offices, and hospital departments to gather sufficient information to obtain authorization and benefits collection of patient portion. You will act as a liaison between the patients, physicians, patient clinics, case management, centralized billing office, third party Medicaid eligibility vendor and community agencies.

In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

• 6 months healthcare experience
• Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding
• Medical terminology with good customer service skills
• Preferred knowledge of registration and billing and credit scoring
• High school diploma or GED required
• CPR certification (as required by facility)

Physical requirements:

sedentary work – prolonged periods of sitting and exert up to 10 lbs force occasionally.

Work from home (in Colorado Springs Area – 1 hour from Common Spirit Hospital). Patient Financial Services Specialist Common Spirit Health – hybrid/remote opportunity!

This Monday‑Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (WFH) position is critical to patient care.

Key responsibilities include:

obtaining and explaining patient insurance benefits, creating/collecting estimates, and managing prior authorizations.

• Proven experience with patient insurance benefits and procedural authorizations.
• Ideal for candidates with a background in patient registration or admissions.

2 + years’ experience in patient finance. Comprehensive training and mentorship provided.
