Location: Roanoke, VA at Carilion Clinic Parkview. This position is not a work‑from‑home position.
The Virtual Monitoring Technician II is primarily responsible for continuous ECG monitoring of patient cardiac rhythm. Responsibilities include responding to all alarms, identifying cardiac arrhythmia, reporting significant events, tracking patient activities, documenting abnormalities, and producing cardiac rhythm reports.
Responsibilities- Respond to all monitoring alarms and identify abnormalities.
- Interpret cardiac arrhythmias and triage actionable events.
- Evaluate trends and notify nurses per alarm‑management protocols.
- Adjust alarm parameters according to procedural guidelines.
- Document significant occurrences and patient activities in the electronic medical record.
- Maintain continuous monitoring and adapt alarm limits to Clinical Alarm Standards.
- Communicate life‑threatening arrhythmias to the response team within 1 minute.
- Review ST segments, QT intervals, SpO2 waveforms, and BP measurements; report abnormalities promptly.
- Follow Lead‑Off protocol and document patient whereabouts.
- Obtain and record rhythm strips at defined intervals.
- Provide unit hand‑off report before leaving monitoring station.
- Orchestrate orientation for new employees and offer guidance to volunteers, students, support or contract staff.
- Offer verbal redirection to patients as needed and maintain line‑of‑sight visibility.
- Effectively communicate changes in patient condition or behavior to inpatient staff in real time.
- Assist with patient transport to procedural or inpatient areas when required.
- Perform continuous video monitoring to detect safety risks and intervene directly when necessary.
- Maintain patient safety and confidentiality throughout all activities.
- Resolve routine issues and refer complex problems to supervisory staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Cardiac Monitoring course or successful challenge (if eligible).
- AHA BLS‑HCP certification within 60 days of hire.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Successful completion of orientation and competency validation for the position.
$17.39 – $24.35 per hour. Salary is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. Benefits are not included in this range.
