Job Summary

The Brighton Center for Specialty Care is one of the newer University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facility dedicated to providing high-quality health care services for adults and children. The 2-story facility is located at 7500 Challis in Brighton, MI. We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-focused individuals who will share in the goal of crafting the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.

Responsibilities*
  • This position will primarily focus on supporting the Oncology department but may be asked to support other areas as needed.
  • As a Medical Assistant in our Oncology Department, you will help us offer our patients a soothing and caring environment for our Oncology services.
  • In these specialized departments you will master the ability to obtain vital signs, height and weight to help calculate drug dosages accurately. In addition to these skills and the abilities you already possess as a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for: ensuring patients are efficiently moving through examination, consultation and treatment rooms; preparing, cleaning, and stocking patient and procedure rooms;

    obtaining and updating medication lists along with medical and surgical histories; performing EKGs, pulse oximeters, and glucometers; tracking external labs; and administrative tasks such as calling patients for inside and outside facilities, entering notes into MiChart, and faxing, copying, printing and scanning patient records.

Physical Requirements

You will be required to do some moderate standing and walking, as well as lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.

Required Qualifications *
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology.
Desired Qualifications*
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .

Work Schedule

Clinic hours are 7:00am - 5:30pm Monday through Friday. Shift will be determined upon hire. This position is part time 24 hours - 3 days per week.
