Part-Time Early Intervention Occupational Therapist Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide home-based, family-centered occupational therapy services to infants, toddlers, and their families through the Early Intervention Program. The Occupational Therapist partners with families to support child development, enhance participation in daily routines, strengthen caregiver capacity, and promote positive developmental outcomes. Services are provided in natural environments, including homes, childcare settings, and community locations throughout the assigned service area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and ongoing assessments for eligible infants and toddlers.
  • Assess fine motor, sensory processing, self-help, adaptive, play, and developmental skills.
  • Develop and implement individualized intervention plans and contribute to Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Provide occupational therapy services using evidence-based, family-centered practices in natural environments.
  • Coach caregivers on strategies that promote participation in daily routines, sensory regulation, feeding, positioning, play, and self-care skills.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and developmental strategies as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, educators, therapists, and community agencies to coordinate services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with state licensure, Medicaid, and Early Intervention program requirements.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Travel within the assigned service area to provide home and community-based services.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current North Dakota Occupational Therapy license.
  • Valid North Dakota driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing pediatric or Early Intervention services.
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, children with developmental delays or disabilities, and their families.
  • Knowledge of child development, sensory integration, family-centered intervention, and community resources.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with children, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to family-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive care.
Supervision

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to complete documentation accurately and on time.
  • Comfort using technology for documentation, scheduling, and virtual communication as needed.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in accordance with HIPAA and program policies.
  • Physical ability to sit on the floor, kneel, bend, lift and carry therapy materials or children as appropriate, and actively engage with infants and toddlers during home visits.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional growth and evidence-based practice.
  • Flexibility to work with families whose schedules may include early mornings, evenings, or occasional schedule changes.
Additional Requirements
  • Successfully pass all required background checks.
  • Maintain current professional licensure or credentialing as applicable.
  • Maintain valid automobile insurance and reliable transportation for travel between visits.
