Overview
This vital, patient‑centered position provides education and guidance to DaVita dialysis patients about health insurance options, helping them understand coverage, financial assistance, and employment decisions. The Insurance Counselor alleviates the stress patients often experience when navigating complex insurance and employment considerations while managing their health‑care needs.
Travel and Working Conditions- Travel to DaVita clinics in central and East Los Angeles and surrounding areas up to 3–4 times per week to deliver in‑person education and support.
- Work from home on the other days; must reside within the Los Angeles area.
- Valid driver’s license required; responsible for driving personal vehicle between clinics with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to squat, walk, and stand for more than 15 minutes; must be comfortable with the sight of blood.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
- Conduct patient insurance education while operating within established compliance parameters.
- Identify and communicate opportunities to improve the patient’s insurance status to reduce financial risk and burden.
- Provide information to help patients find and secure insurance coverage and other financial assistance programs as needed.
- Deliver a high level of customer service across multiple DaVita Dialysis facilities, ensuring educational needs are met and patient questions addressed.
- Complete insurance assessments and evaluations to document patient education sessions accurately.
- Act as a liaison between patients, facility teammates, billing office, and corporate office to resolve insurance issues.
- Build and maintain relationships with field partners such as Home Program Departments, Facility Administrators, Social Workers, and Administrative Assistants to ensure seamless patient support.
- Collaborate with supervisor/manager to meet objectives, deadlines, and reporting/measurement requirements related to patient education.
- Provide monthly reporting and analysis on key metrics related to patient education and advocacy; actively participate in monthly operations reviews of assigned patient portfolio.
- Pursue opportunities for process improvement and review ideas with team and leadership.
- Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and trainings as needed; assist with onboarding and training of new teammates or other duties as assigned.
- Full vaccination against COVID‑19 or a medical/religious exemption is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic computer skills, high‑speed internet (minimum of 40 GB) and a private workspace, and secure transportation to DaVita facilities are required.
- Minimum of two (1) year(s) experience working with Medicare and Medicaid insurance as well as commercial insurance plans and benefits is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of two (1) year(s) experience in a healthcare organization working with clinical staff and patients is preferred.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency.
