The Manager of Health Information Technology (HIT) Operations is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Virginia’s health information exchange (HIE), ensuring effective program administration, vendor management, participant engagement and operational performance. This role supervises the HIT Operations team who provide direct support to prospective and existing program participants, maintain program documentation and coordinate stakeholder meetings and program communications. The Manager of HIT Operations works closely with the Director of HIT to ensure operational excellence across the VHI HIT portfolio and operationalize strategic priorities.
SummaryThe Manager of Health Information Technology (HIT) Operations is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of Virginia’s health information exchange (HIE), ensuring effective program administration, vendor management, participant engagement and operational performance. This role supervises the HIT Operations team who provide direct support to prospective and existing program participants, maintain program documentation and coordinate stakeholder meetings and program communications. The Manager of HIT Operations works closely with the Director of HIT to ensure operational excellence across the VHI HIT portfolio and operationalize strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities1. Oversee the operations of VHI’s HIT programs and services, including:
- Health Coordination Network Program
- Public Health Reporting Pathway
- Advance Care Planning Registry
- EXCHANGE Program
2. Supervise operations staff and provide ongoing coaching, guidance and performance management.
3. Serve as the primary operational contact for technology vendors and monitor vendor performance.
4. Serve as the escalation point and provide managerial support for participant onboarding, engagement, implementation activities and operational support.
5. Manage relationships with healthcare organizations, state agencies, association partners and other stakeholders to advance program objectives and ensure effective coordination.
6. Develop, maintain and continuously improve operational workflows, procedures and documentation.
7. Monitor program performance against established goals, timelines and operational requirements.
8. Prepare metrics, reports, presentations and operational updates for leadership and stakeholders.
9. Lead stakeholder meetings, advisory groups, training sessions and related communications.
10. Lead and coordinate cross-functional efforts across VHI to ensure timely contract execution, accurate invoicing and effective administration of program operations.
11. Manage participant communications and ensure timely responses to operational, programmatic and technical inquiries.
Qualifications & Experience- Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising or leading staff
- Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced
- environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, health informatics, healthcare management or a related field
- 5 years of experience supervising or leading staff
- 3 or more years of experience in healthcare program operations, health information technology, health information exchange or a related field
- Experience managing vendor relationships and healthcare technology projects
- Familiarity with interoperability standards such as HL7 and USCDI (United States Core Data for Interoperability)

Working ArrangementThis position follows VHI’s hybrid work model, with a combination of in-office and remote work. Employees are required to work on-site at VHI’s Richmond, Virginia office on designated in-office days.
