This home-based (remote) position is open to Washington residents and those residing on the /WA and OR/WA borders. Quarterly in-person fieldwork throughout WA would be communicated in advance.
This is a non-permanent, full-time position with a duration of approximately 12 months.
The OpportunityThe Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is dedicated to protecting and improving the health of all people in Washington. Within the Prevention and Community Health Division, the Thriving Children and Youth Section partners with communities across the state to improve access to health services, strengthen systems that support children and families, and advance health equity.
The Adolescent Behavioral Health Coordinator plays a key role in improving behavioral health services for adolescents and young adults throughout Washington. This position helps coordinate the implementation of legislation expanding behavioral health services in School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs), works closely with statewide partners to improve access to care, and helps ensure programs are implemented effectively and equitably. In addition, this position oversees regional suicide prevention initiatives and supports innovative projects designed to improve behavioral health access for youth across Washington.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building partnerships, managing complex initiatives, and creating meaningful system-level improvements that positively impact children, youth, and families.
Key Responsibilities IncludeManage Grants, Contracts, and Provides Program Oversight
- Develop, manage, and monitor interagency agreements, contracts, and funding opportunities that support adolescent behavioral health initiatives.
- Award and oversee grant funding to expand behavioral health services within School-Based Health Centers.
- Develop monitoring plans to ensure funded partners meet program objectives, deliver high-quality products, and maintain accountability for grant funds.
- Partner with DOH epidemiologists and program partners to establish data collection, reporting, evaluation, and performance monitoring systems.
- Review program outcomes and use data to inform continuous improvement and strengthen behavioral health services for youth.
- Coordinate implementation of legislation expanding behavioral health services within School-Based Health Centers.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and deliverables to support successful implementation.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to align priorities, address challenges, and ensure legislative objectives are met.
- Provide technical assistance to School-Based Health Centers and partners implementing evidence-based and evidence-informed behavioral health practices.
- Plan and implement special projects that improve access to mental health services for children, adolescents, and young adults.
- Support initiatives addressing youth behavioral health challenges.
- Expand access to mental health and autism screening and evaluation services.
- Build partnerships that strengthen coordinated systems of care for youth and families.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on adolescent behavioral health.
- Provide consultation and guidance to schools, health care providers, community organizations, and other partners.
- Support partners in implementing effective, equitable, and culturally responsive behavioral health programs.
- Represent the Department on statewide committees, advisory groups, and collaborative initiatives.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with state agencies, schools, health care systems, community organizations, and tribal partners.
