OverviewThe Transplant Pharmacy Specialists support the hospital's transplant services at Children's Mercy. These positions work in tandem with two transplant specialists covering kidney and heart transplant Monday through Friday. Pharmacists will be utilized to expand the kidney transplant and dialysis services (1 pharmacist) and liver transplant service (1 pharmacist). Experience with solid organ transplantation, including an understanding of immunosuppressive therapies, transplant-related complications, pharmacokinetics, and physiological considerations that impact medication selection and management, is necessary to be successful in this role.
Pharmacists are expected to apply the full potential of their clinical knowledge and experience to assess and improve patient care, including optimizing immunosuppressive therapy, monitoring for adverse effects and drug interactions, providing education to patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members, and participating in the development of transplant-specific protocols, guidelines, and order sets. Role may allow for remote work based on the needs of the department at the discretion of the manager/supervisor.

- Provides patient-focused pharmaceutical care through rational, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy evaluation, management, recommendations, and patient education.
- Participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education, and training programs to patients, pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff and to other parties as appropriate upon request.
- Participates in departmental quality improvement projects upon request and facilitates effective communication regarding initiatives to appropriate parties.
- Maintains competence required for current job title/position and engages in professional self-development.
