Inspection Service Consultant
Job DescriptionThe Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) mission is to provide opportunities, services, and programs that promote a healthy, safe, and stable environment for residents to be self-sufficient. This position serves as an Inspection Service Consultant for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Residential Environmental Services Section, Lead Inspection Unit. This individual shall provide lead-based paint hazard control activities, including inspections, risk assessments, elevated blood lead level investigations and reports for eligible families residing in high-risk homes containing lead-based paint.
Additionally, this individual may provide project specifications, abatement and contractor oversight, project facilitation, and clearance examinations. This position shall work closely with a very diverse population of clientele and shall serve as liaison between clientele and local health department staff, nurses, physicians and housing officials. This position shall also focus on providing education and outreach to diverse populations and groups on childhood lead poisoning, the Lead Safe Home Program and healthy homes.
An individual in this position is also asked to provide technical support and training to staff on topics relating to performing lead inspection activities and completing required technical reports associated with lead activities.
Education and Experience
Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, biological sciences, public health, occupational safety or health, or engineering with a minimum of 20 semester (30 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: biology, biostatistics, chemistry, critical incident analysis, engineering, environmental health, epidemiology, ergonomics, health physics, industrial hygiene, physics, physiology, public health, sampling and laboratory analysis, hazardous materials, hazardous materials management, or toxicology.
Industrial Hygienist 9, 10, or P11 experience is not required.
The physical location of this position is 333 South Grand Avenue, Lansing, MI 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including: a secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions. A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
