Key Responsibilities

Do you have experience with data analysis and program evaluation? Do you have experience with statistical software like SAS, R, or SPSS? The Utah Department of Health and Human Services is looking for an Epidemiologist to work under the Data, Research and Evaluation Team within the Office of Health Equity. In this position, you will be able to work in a team environment with an amazing group of dedicated individuals.

Day-to-day

Responsibilities Of This Position
  • Conduct surveillance activities, such as reviewing and assessing surveillance data needs, collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and communicating surveillance data.
  • Investigate factors that affect the health of communities, including social drivers of health.
  • Collect, manage, analyze, interpret, and visualize data and report on findings.
  • Develop a series of data tools and trainings.
  • Provide technical assistance to other DHHS programs on health equity and health disparities data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Develop reports and conduct presentations for dissemination to diverse audiences.

  • Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • This position is a time limited position (Schedule TL) that may convert to career service (Schedule

    B) in the future.
  • This position is currently a hybrid of two (2) in-office and three (3) remote work days. Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion, at any time, and for any reason.
Qualifications Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
  • Must have a Masters degree with at least one to two years of work experience in epidemiology or data analysis and proficiency in SAS and/or R; OR have a total of 8 years combined work experience in analytical epidemiology or data analysis with proficiency in SAS and/ or R.
  • Must have advanced skills in statistical software like SAS and/or R.
  • Has excellent qualitative and quantitative data analysis and statistical skills, including analytical epidemiology.
  • Has strong technical writing skills.
  • Is detail oriented.
  • Has excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Exercises high critical thinking skills.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Has an interest in health disparities.
Preferred Or Trainable/on-the-job Qualifications
  • Has GIS experience.
