Under the general direction of the Director, Quality & Safety, the Quality & Safety Specialist will originate, facilitate, and expedite improvement efforts and education targeted at quality, patient safety, High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiatives, and process improvement activities that support departmental and organizational goals.
Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Director, Quality & Safety, the Quality & Safety Specialist will originate, facilitate, and expedite improvement efforts and education targeted at quality, patient safety, High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiatives, and process improvement activities that support departmental and organizational goals.
Essential Functions- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Utilizes and supports the implementation of the OnPoint Safety Management System (SMS) project management standards, processes, policies, methodologies, and tools.
- Conducts reactive safety work, including ACA, DCA, and cRCA investigations.
- Performs proactive risk assessments such as FMECA and HAZOP analyses with guidance from senior Quality & Safety Specialists.
- Facilitates the identification, investigation, analysis, and management of safety events, near misses, and great catches using safety science principles.
- Oversees SMS project communication, including written and verbal communications.
- Develops, tracks, and reports quality assurance, performance, and utilization metrics for SMS initiatives.
- Supports quality improvement and patient safety initiatives that align with organizational goals.
- Participates in clinical process improvement projects.
- Facilitates multidisciplinary teams and work groups.
- Develops performance indicators, reviews metrics, and creates action plans.
- Supports safety and quality system redesign and pay-for-performance initiatives.
- Participates in hospital-wide committees, including the Patient Safety Clinical Excellence Council, Scorecard Temporary Action Groups, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committees, and other quality and safety committees as assigned.
- Utilizes hospital and departmental software systems to input, retrieve, analyze, and present data.
- Regularly communicates findings and recommendations based on data analysis.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Registered Nurse preferred.
- Process or quality improvement experience preferred.
- Experience presenting work at internal conferences or other public forums preferred.
- Basic understanding of system safety principles.
- Ability to conduct Safety Event Evaluations (ACA, DCA, cRCA) with guidance.
- Ability to perform Proactive Risk Assessments (FBD, FMEA) with assistance.
- Experience supporting quality improvement initiatives.
- Basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles.
- Basic data analysis and project management skills.
- Ability to lead teams through a project lifecycle.
- Effective presentation and communication skills.
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt within 12 months of hire.
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) within 12 months of hire.
