Job SummaryBattelle's Health Research and Analytics (HRA) business line is currently seeking an Epidemiologist II to support our government customer in Portsmouth, VA (full time remote work available). This Public Health (PH) program enables our government customers to maximize readiness through force health protection (FHP) strategies and solutions for current and potential Public Health (PH) threats. The core scientific and technical capabilities and product lines in this program are to conduct Health Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Analysis;
Disease and Injury Prevention; and PH Consultation and Support for the benefit of active-duty service members, retirees, and their families. Battelle shall enable these capabilities and product lines by providing Scientific and Technical Information (STI) deliverables, by performing Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and other Research and Development (R&D) related analytical services. This position supports the Epi Data Center (EDC), which provides data analysis for public health surveillance for Navy and Marine Corps members and dependents in the following areas:
Diseases, Conditions and Infections, Reportable Medical Events, Deployment Health Assessments, Occupational and Environmental Exposures, and Information Technology.
Leads epidemiologic scientific and technical analysis for the customer's disease and injury prevention programs including analyses of health assessments, medical and environmental health data, and surveillance (including bio surveillance) and clinical data to develop studies, reports, and recommendations to prevent disease and injury and to improve health and medical readiness, value, quality, cost, and availability of care.
Responsibilities- Leads epidemiological analyses to include using in-theater, OCONUS, and CONUS military data systems and similar systems to conduct bio surveillance activities to collect, analyze, and report medical and environmental health data that directly contribute to operational decision support.
- Leads epidemiological analyses related to injury prevention, tuberculosis, flu reporting, wounded, ill and injured populations, healthcare associated infections, infectious disease, mental health/behavioral health conditions, deployment related conditions, and environmental health.
- Leads comprehensive investigations to identify and characterize risk factors, assists development of strategies to reduce injury and disease incidence or mitigate health risk, evaluates, and recommends methods of control including preventive measures.
- Leads studies and develops metrics for the evaluation of the effectiveness of public health programs, disease prevention programs, and health promotion activities to support data‐driven decisions.
- Leads a variety of detailed biostatistical analyses and applies knowledge of advanced statistical software (e.g., SAS) to tasks that involve large amounts of data or extensive data cleaning and manipulation to evaluate epidemiological questions.
- Coordinates cross‐functional teams of professionals and supports personnel to conduct routine and non‐routine epidemiologic evaluations.
- Ensures the statistical validity and epidemiological applicability of study activities.
- Provides technical guidance and subject matter expertise to junior epidemiologists.
- Manages and oversees special projects as designated.
- Works directly with senior personnel, program managers, and external organizations in the planning, oversight, execution, and evaluation of multiple complex technical and scientific solutions.
- Master of Science degree in epidemiology with at least 15 credit hours in basic and advanced biostatistics courses OR a Master of Public Health degree with at least 30 credit hours in courses in epidemiology and biostatistics.
- 9 or more years of epidemiology work experience in one or more specific areas of public health to include: health analytics, clinical health surveillance, disease surveillance, biosurveillance, population health, behavioral health, mental health, suicide analysis, deployment health, injury analysis, environmental health, occupational health, Industrial Hygiene, Preventive Medicine, medical readiness, acute and chronic disease and illness, health risk assessment, emerging PH threats, and disease investigation.
- A minimum of five or more years' experience using statistical programs, specifically Statistical Analysis System (SAS).
