QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Skills Specialist I
- High school diploma/GED, and
- At least 1 year of combined experience as
- 1) a consumer or family member of consumer who is in recovery from mental illness, and/ or
- 2) a paid or volunteer work in a Mental Health/Social Service setting or in providing services to one or more mental health/social service consumers that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Health Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children's Mental Health System of Care.
Skills Specialist II
- High school diploma/GED, and
- At least 2 years direct care experience in a Mental Health/Social Service setting that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Health Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children's Mental Health System of Care.
Skills Specialist III
- High school diploma/GED, and
- At least 4 years or more direct care in a Mental Health/Social Service setting that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children's Mental Health System of Care, or
- 2 years direct care in a Mental Health/Social Service setting + 2 years education in the Mental Health/Social Service field
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Position Specific
- Performs a wide variety of duties to assist professional mental health/social services staff in coordinating and providing services based on clinical need and in consultation with supervisor to assigned youth, and families in the home, office, school, or other community-based settings.
- Possesses specific cultural competence to work with and outreach to culturally diverse populations and communities
- In collaboration with professional mental health/social services staff, provides services to youth involved in the identified systems meeting all County requirements as listed in program scope
- Supports clients by providing a variety of including Intensive Home Based Services (IHBS), Intensive Case Coordination, Case Management, Rehabilitation, Collateral, services to youth as identified in youth’s treatment plan/or
- Follows program specific Treatment Plan, and Functional Assessment/Behavior Support Plans as a tool for planning/ providing services as assigned
- Facilitates rehabilitative and/or skill building groups where indicated
- Provides collateral support to caregivers and significant support persons as identified in youth’s treatment plan
- Follows safety plans in coordination with youth’s child family team, maximizing the use of natural supports and community-based resources
- Identifies temporary and sustainable resources and services within family and community environments
- Participates in Child Family Team (CFT), multi-disciplinary team, hospital, crisis, psychiatric, court, school, and provider meetings as scheduled
- Provides and documents all eligible billable and non-billable services, including but not limited to group session, collateral, rehabilitation, In Home Based Services (IHBS), case management, and Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) within required timelines
- Writes clear, accurate and timely progress notes consistent with each contact/visit
- Seeks out and addresses clinical feedback and recommendations provided by supervisors, and other professional mental health staff.
- Attends all staff meetings, consumer meetings, and consultation meetings as scheduled
- Able to provide or arrange for safe transportation for youth and families to services as needed
- Participates in utilization, accreditation, peer review process as assigned
- Works collaboratively with all internal programs, departments, and staff to provide support as needed
- Maintains positive relationships with consumers and customers
- Model and coach positive, constructive attitudes and behaviors in managing difficult situations in school, work, and living situations
