PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING: WHAT DO WE MEAN BY “LIVE-IN”?
This is a true live-in position with one private client—not an hourly shift, overnight shift, or occasional agency live-in assignment.
You will:- Relocate and move into the client’s private home
- Have your own private bedroom in the home
- Sleep in the client’s home on your scheduled work nights
- Help the client on and off throughout each day, as needed
- Provide memory support, companionship, supervision, meal preparation, medication reminders, household assistance, and other daily support
- Help the client maintain a safe, active, and engaging daily routine
- Receive scheduled breaks to leave the home based on the agreed-upon schedule
To qualify, you must have completed at least two verifiable live-in caregiving or companion jobs where you lived in one client’s private home and had your own bedroom. At least one job must have lasted six months or longer, and the second must have lasted at least three months.

We do not recruit for hourly jobs or 12-hour shifts—ONLY LIVE-IN. Since 2010, families across the United States have contracted with Grandma Joan to find, screen, and recruit experienced caregivers and companions for long-term live-in positions in their private homes. Our clients are the live-ins’ employers.
THE POSITION: PRIVATE-HIRE LIVE-IN MEMORY CARE COMPANIONCare location:

Care recipient:
Woman in her late eighties who lives with her husband who has no care needs.
Memory and support needs:
Early-stage dementia. She cannot safely live alone but does not currently require hands-on assistance with activities of daily living. She needs supervision, reminders, companionship, and help maintaining her daily routine.
Mobility:
Self-ambulates
Companionship and activities:
Plan and participate in regular walks, outings, social activities, movies, museums, community programs, hobbies, and other activities based on the client’s interests and abilities.
Household and non-care needs:
Meal planning and preparation, medication reminders, hydration reminders, driving, errands, grocery shopping, light housekeeping, laundry, appointment coordination, and pet care. Must be cat friendly.
Future care needs:
This is currently a companion and memory-support position. The client’s needs may increase over time, and the position may eventually develop into a live-in caregiving role that includes hands-on assistance with activities of daily living.
Schedule:
Full-time live-in. 7 nights and 6.5 days each week. Looking for candidates who are interested in a multi-year position.
- Have completed at least two verifiable live-in caregiving or companion jobs lasting three months or longer, including at least one job lasting six months or longer
- Provide strong recommendations from at least two previous home care clients, including at least one live-in client for whom you worked longer than six months
- Have at least five years of paid, verifiable caregiving, companion-care, or memory-care experience
- Have paid, verifiable experience supporting clients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or other forms of memory loss
- Understand how to provide reminders, redirection, reassurance, supervision, and structure without unnecessarily taking away the client’s independence
- Be able to plan and maintain an active, engaging schedule based on the client’s interests, abilities, and changing needs
- Be willing to accompany the client on walks, outings, appointments, social activities, and community events
